"All good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by change." James 1:17

Welcome to Good News Catechist. I debated about placing my profile here because this website is about serving others and not about my profile. However, because there is so much information out on the web, I thought I would share a little about me in the spirit of service that warrants a level of trust in the person providing the information. I am a life-long learner and there are times I find I have omitted something or stated something unclearly so I go back and revisit. I am a work in progress, for sure.

My name is Monalisa Hasson.  The Good News Catechist Resources website was created to share teaching and learning resources with other catechists or anyone interested in teaching young students about Christ. I am a retired K-12 and Community College Educator who found a calling to teach religious education after retirement.  After 30 plus years of serving students in Southern California, I  find no greater reward than the enjoyment I find teaching about God.  Through teaching,  I am also learning from students and learning more about my faith. Each interaction with students and others helps me learn more about myself and develop a deeper relationship with our Heavenly Father.

I have served as a catechist since 2019.  I have taught 2-7 grade students preparing for first communion.  I have completed the Catechist Certificate courses, One Mission, One Faith, and Vision and Skills Faith Formation through the Los Angeles Archdiocese.  I am currently enrolled in my third year of Advanced Ministry Studies through the Los Angeles Archdiocese. I am  also in the discernment stage of the process to commit to living according to the Rule of St. Francis through the fraternity of St. Louis the King in Santa Barbara, CA located in the St. Francis Region of  the Franciscan Secular Order.

In addition to these studies, I earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Management, a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in K-12 urban education.

I have three grown precious daughters, and two beautiful grandchildren.  My husband and I enjoy walking, reading, and traveling.  My husband is also a retired educator who served many years as a school principal.

I created this page to share my love for teaching and also to provide a space where catechists could share their knowledge, lessons, and teaching resources.  This is a work in progress so stay tuned as the website continues to develop into an amazing place to share.  Just as we are on a lifelong journey to continue God's mission, this page is a place of continued development and, hopefully, serves to encourage us all to develop our relationship with God.

Peace, Love, and Blessings to all,

Monalisa Hasson, Ed.D.
